It’s no secret I am a bit of a health fanatic and consider myself to be a learner of all things healthy for the mind, body and spirit. I am widely passionate about plant-based nutrition, natural remedies and developing strong mental health habits to live a healthy happy abundant life!
But my natural health journey hasn’t always been so healthy OR natural…
My relationship with food has been complicated. In my early to late teens and even throughout some of my adult-life, I struggled with bouts of anorexia and bulimia. Stressful or tramatic life events seem to trigger these events. One more recent event that triggered this disease to rear it’s ugly head was the death of my father by suicide. I would obsess over calories, grams of fat and portion sizes instead of focusing on nutrient dense food to fuel my mental and physical health. My method of coping was anti-depressents or other prescription medications to numb my pain.
Anyone looking from the outside in would have never guessed I had these struggles. I played a good game of charades and not until recently did I start to peal back the onion layers and uncover who I was and my purpose in life.
I have grown to understand that my low-self-esteem and perfectionistic tendencies led to many of my unhealthy behaviors with food and relationships. For much of my life, I felt like a fraud or an imposter; the person on the outside was not a reflection of who I knew I truly was on the inside. Even though, feeling confident with the real me is getting much easier…
I am still learning.
Please understand that I am still on this journey and I see every day as an opportunity to improve. Over the years I have tired immersing myself with self-improvement books, bible studies, counseling and clean eating to help me live a more happy, healthy and abundant life.
Please understand, I am NO sage on the stage! I am more of a guide on the side for you. I still have days where I struggle and make mistakes just like everyone else and still seek to find answers to help me through those days.
All that said, my personal struggles have taught me healthy strategies for living which I believe God put me on earth to fulfill.
Adding fuel to the fire…
I work as the business development director for a large health care system and recently received my graduate degree in healthcare administration. Both of these things have opened my eyes up to the epidemic of poor health and disease in this country. Americans are sicker and die at a younger age when compared to other wealthy nations. This is both frustrating and scary to me. To top it off, I feel society is confused and mislead about what is healthy which is why I set out on this mission to educate and inspire others.
